SpiceJet has introduced paperless boarding at Shillong Airport, becoming the first airline in India to issue WhatsApp-based boarding passes at airport counters. Passengers will now receive digital passes instead of printed ones, reducing wait times and cutting paper use.

The initiative, powered by SpiceJet’s in-house Web Departure Control System, also enables baggage tags via SMS and boosts operational efficiency. It aims to lower the carbon footprint from millions of printed passes, aligning with the airline’s sustainability and digital innovation goals.

SpiceJet plans to expand paperless boarding to more airports across India.
