Spotify has introduced Messages, a new in-app chat feature that lets users share songs, playlists, podcasts, and audiobooks directly within the app. Available to users aged 16+ on iOS and Android in select markets, the feature supports one-to-one chats, reactions with text or emojis, and smart suggestions to connect with people already on Blends, Jams, or Family/Duo plans. First-time chats require approval to prevent spam, and all conversations are encrypted, with options to block or report users.
By integrating Messages with features like Blend, Jam, and Group requests, Spotify aims to bring discovery and conversation under one roof, shifting from link-sharing on third-party apps to its own social experience. While not a full-fledged social network yet, the move strengthens Spotify’s push toward community-driven discovery, giving fans a new way to share music and helping artists reach listeners more directly.
