ASCI has appointed Sudhanshu Vats, MD of Pidilite Industries, as its new chairman at the 39th AGM, ahead of its 40th anniversary in October. S Subramanyeswar (MullenLowe Global) has been named vice-chairman, and Paritosh Joshi (Provocateur Advisory) honorary treasurer.
Founded in 1985, ASCI is India’s self-regulatory advertising body, working to ensure truthful and responsible communication. Under Vats, the focus will be on integrity, consumer trust, and adapting to new technologies and formats.
To mark its milestone year, ASCI announced key initiatives: AdWise (a media literacy programme for 1M+ students), Gen Alpha Research, new offices in Delhi and Bengaluru, a legal resource hub, and fresh content partnerships.
ASCI reports compliance rates of 98% in print, 97% in TV, and 81% in digital ads. Recent efforts include guidelines on influencers, crypto, dark patterns, green claims, and gender stereotyping, along with the ASCI Academy launched in 2023. Moving forward, it aims to strengthen self-regulation, expand global ties, and address challenges from AI and digital-first marketing.
