Castrol India has appointed Saugata Basuray as its Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2026. Basuray will take on the additional responsibility alongside his current role as Wholetime Director and Head of B2C Sales, and will be redesignated as Wholetime Director and Interim CEO from the same date.
The move follows the exit of Castrol India’s Managing Director, Kedar Lele, whose last working day was December 31, 2025. In an earlier regulatory filing, the company had informed that its Board had approved Basuray’s appointment as Interim CEO until a new Managing Director is named.
Basuray brings more than 25 years of experience with Castrol India Limited, spanning sales, marketing and general management. He joined the company in 1999 as a Management Trainee after completing his MBA from the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management and has since held a series of leadership roles across India and international markets.
His career includes assignments across four countries and two continents. Early roles saw him work closely with senior leadership as Executive Assistant to the Managing Director of Castrol India and later as Regional Vice President at BP. In 2008, Basuray moved to Castrol’s global headquarters in the UK, where he was part of the team that helped build Castrol Edge into a global brand.
After returning to India, he led Castrol’s B2B sales and marketing functions, before taking on international leadership roles as Head of Castrol Philippines and later as Managing Director of Castrol’s joint venture in Indonesia. His appointment as Interim CEO is expected to provide continuity and stability as the company navigates its leadership transition.
