The Delhi High Court heard a lawsuit filed by Honasa Consumer Ltd. against HUL over a Lakmé sunscreen ad allegedly targeting its Derma Co. brand. Both companies agreed to settle the dispute amicably. HUL will modify the ad—changing product visuals and wording—and remove it from online and outdoor platforms within 48 hours.
HUL stated it can continue the Lakmé campaign with changes and emphasized its goal of promoting SPF transparency. Honasa, in turn, agreed to take down its critical social media posts. The ad originally accused some “online bestsellers” of overstating SPF claims without naming brands, though it featured bottles resembling Derma Co. and Dot & Key. HUL defended the campaign, citing independent lab tests and reaffirmed its commitment to consumer safety and scientific integrity.
