Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has become the Co-owner of the UBS Athletics Kids Cup, strengthening his commitment to promoting grassroots sports in India after serving as the programme’s ambassador for the past two seasons.
The move marks a new phase in Chopra’s association with the initiative, which aims to encourage children across the country to participate in sports and adopt an active lifestyle. The UBS Athletics Kids Cup has engaged more than 250,000 children across 2,500 schools in five cities through fun, inclusive and accessible athletics competitions.
Commenting on the development, Neeraj Chopra said that witnessing the programme’s impact over the past two seasons convinced him to take on a larger role. He added that every child deserves an opportunity to discover and showcase their talent, and the initiative now aims to reach one million children while inspiring more youngsters to embrace sport.
Daniel Schenker, CEO of Dspowerparts and Co-founder of the initiative, said Chopra’s decision to become a co-owner reflects his belief in the programme’s vision and reinforces its potential to create a lasting impact on grassroots sports in India.
With Chopra joining as Co-owner, the initiative plans to expand its reach while continuing to promote confidence, discipline and lifelong participation in sports among children. The programme has also maintained a strong focus on inclusivity, with nearly half of all participants being girls, reinforcing its commitment to making sports accessible to every child.
