The Hindu Group Publishing Private Limited (THGPPL) has unanimously appointed N. Murali as Chairman of its Board of Directors for a three-year term.
Murali succeeds Dr. Nirmala Lakshman, who stepped down during the Board meeting held on June 18, 2026, upon completing her three-year tenure. His appointment follows a unanimous recommendation from the company’s Nomination and Remuneration Committee, chaired by Senior Advocate Krishna Srinivasan.
A qualified Chartered Accountant, Murali brings more than five decades of experience in management, business operations, and financial leadership within the newspaper industry. He joined the family-owned newspaper business in 1969 and went on to hold several key leadership positions, including General Manager in 1977 and Joint Managing Director in 1995.
In 2006, he was appointed Managing Director of Kasturi & Sons Limited (KSL), the holding company and publisher of The Hindu and its allied publications, before later serving as its Chairman. Over the years, he has remained an active member of the boards of both THGPPL and KSL.
Beyond The Hindu Group, Murali has held several prominent positions in the media industry, including President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS), Chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), Chairman of the National Readership Studies Council, and Chairman of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI).
His international contributions include serving as the first South Asian representative elected to the board of Germany-based media association IFRA, followed by a tenure on the board of the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) in Paris.
Murali also continues to serve as a trustee of the Media Development Foundation, which oversees the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai, and as President of The Music Academy, Madras.
